How PARISA WANG Bags Are Made: Leather & Construction

Behind the Craft

PARISA WANG handbags are designed in New York and handcrafted with our manufacturing partner in China. From the first proportions to the final opening, the aim is the same: a distinctive bag that earns its place in your everyday life.

That means considering how a material feels, how a handle sits in the hand, and how easily you can reach the things you carry. Here is how those decisions come together.

A designer’s vision, developed in partnership

Founded in New York in 2016, PARISA WANG grew from Parisa’s experience designing luxury handbags she could not afford to carry herself. Working directly with an experienced atelier allowed her to focus on original design, craftsmanship, and practical function.

Our New York design team works with the atelier to refine proportion, construction, and function through sampling. Customer feedback is part of that conversation. A beautiful silhouette matters; so does the way it works when you leave home.

Within the Gabrielle family, for example, the 35 offers everyday capacity, the 38 makes room for a larger work load, and the East-West Shoulder Bag brings the design language into a longer, lower shape. These are different carrying needs, rather than a single design made bigger or smaller.

Choosing leather for the finished design

Our collection includes smooth calfskin, pebbled calfskin, and goatskin suede. Each changes the character of a bag. Smooth calfskin emphasizes clean lines; pebbled calfskin adds visible grain; suede brings a soft nap and depth of color.

The Gabrielle 35’s smooth version is described as full-grain USA calfskin, its pebbled version as Spanish calfskin, and its suede version as British goatskin suede. The medium pebbled Madison uses Italian full-grain calfskin. Check the exact version: a family name does not mean every bag uses the same material.

Leather origin and handbag manufacturing location answer different questions. Italian leather does not mean the finished bag was made in Italy. Likewise, calfskin identifies an animal source, while full-grain and pebbled describe other properties of the material.

From components to a handbag

Our craftsmanship footage follows material preparation, cutting, stitching, and finishing, showing artisan handwork alongside specialist machinery. The work brings separate panels, handles, closures, and hardware into a finished shape.

A bag’s construction also shapes its use. The Gabrielle 35 has a zipped main compartment and two oversized exterior pockets. The zipper encloses the main load, while the exterior pockets keep frequently reached-for items accessible.

The Madison Top Handle Bag offers a more defined silhouette. Its signature lock draws on vintage hardware found on New York’s Madison Avenue. The hardware becomes both a focal point and part of the opening experience.

The details you notice when carrying it

A short top handle and a long shoulder handle create different relationships between the wearer and the bag. The Gabrielle 35 pairs a top handle with a separate shoulder strap. The medium Gabrielle East-West uses tubular handles designed for shoulder wear.

Capacity deserves the same attention. The Gabrielle 35 lists room for a 13-inch laptop; the Gabrielle 38 lists room for a 15-inch laptop. Check the product’s physical measurements and your device with its case. A stated fit is not a promise of a padded laptop compartment.

Our in-house production and quality-control teams in China and the United States oversee materials, construction, and finish. The precise assembly and inspection steps vary with the design; we do not treat every style as an identical construction.

Care is part of the story

The material you choose also determines how you care for it. Follow the instructions for the selected finish, protect the bag from unsuitable conditions, and store it thoughtfully between uses. Suede needs a different care routine from smooth leather.
